J’Zavien Currence, a four-star safety from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina, continues to solidify his commitment to the University of South Carolina (USC). On April 1, 2025, he made an unofficial visit to the USC campus to observe spring practice, further deepening his connection with the Gamecocks.

Ranked as the top player in South Carolina and among the premier safeties nationally for the 2026 recruiting class, Currence’s presence at practice underscores his dedication to both his personal development and the USC program. His 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame, combined with his athletic prowess, has earned him a 91 rating and a national ranking of 113, placing him 10th among safeties in the 2026 class.

Currence’s commitment to USC was announced on October 17, 2024, making him the fifth commitment for the Gamecocks’ 2026 class. He joins fellow South Pointe teammate Anthony Baxter, an offensive lineman, in pledging to USC. His decision reflects a strong bond with the coaching staff and a clear vision for his collegiate career.

Beyond his commitment, Currence actively engages in events that showcase his skills and leadership. He recently participated in the Adidas All-American game, where he impressed with his defensive capabilities, including a notable tackle for loss. His performance in such events continues to affirm his status as a top-tier recruit.

While Currence remains committed to USC, he continues to receive attention from other programs. Notably, Notre Dame extended an offer to him in June 2024, recognizing his potential and athleticism. However, as of now, Currence’s focus remains on his commitment to the Gamecocks.

Currence’s journey from Rock Hill to Columbia exemplifies the Gamecocks’ commitment to recruiting top in-state talent. His continued engagement with the team and his active participation in high-profile events position him to make a significant impact on USC’s defense in the coming years.
