Nick Shook, an NFL journalist, has graded all 66 quarterbacks who saw at least one start in the 2023 season. The first quarterback selected by the Carolina Panthers is backup Andy Dalton, who is ranked No. 29.
In just two games in 2023, a Panthers quarterback surpassed 300 passing yards. If I told you that Dalton and Bryce Young split those games equally, would you think I was crazy? Dalton attempted to stay up with Seattle in his lone start of the season, throwing 58 passes, and he handled the situation as one might expect from a 13-year veteran. Although Carolina lost that game, Dalton took the offense from a team lacking in talent to a level that Young was never able to achieve as a rookie.
Young missed that first game due to an ankle injury in Week 3. Dalton’s 361-yard, two-touchdown performance in the 37-27 loss to the Seahawks was made possible by his absence.
