Tigers charge head coach Dan McKellar €2.5 million today; due to suspicious…
Dan McKellar interview: I come up with ideas in the sauna… like Leicester’s ‘Tiger Prowl’
Exclusive: New Aussie head coach has spoken with Steve Borthwick since arriving at Leicester and insists he is loving life in the Midlands.
From the shores of Townsville to the shivers of Leicester, it is not just the culture of the East Midlands to which Dan McKellar, the new Tigers head coach, has had to acclimatise. Sitting in an unheated hanger at Mattioli Woods Welford Road while donning his trademark baseball cap, one might forgive the Australian for wondering quite what he had signed up for.
But there is veritable Aussie grit to McKellar. Whether it be the English chill, moving his wife and two daughters nearly 10,000 miles across the world to an alien culture of pork pie and curry (not together), or spearheading an improvement in form after Leicester’s mediocre start to the Premiership, McKellar has had to roll with the punches. Having worked under Dave Rennie as Wallabies forwards coach before the Kiwi’s abrupt axing – resulting in the quick-fire hiring and firing of Eddie Jones – McKellar is well versed in navigating choppy waters.
