Coach Neal Brown and West Virginia came to an agreement on a one-year contract extension that would keep him with the team until 2027. Tuesday morning the extension was announced by WVU sports director Wren Baker.

Brown received the deal from WVU following the Mountaineers’ 9-4 season, which included victory against North Carolina and Pitt in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and a 6-3 record in the Big 12.

At WVU, Brown has amassed a 31-29 record since being hired before the 2019 campaign began.

In a statement, Baker stated, “I am pleased with the progress I’ve seen in our football program since arriving last year.” “This contract adjustment, in my opinion, enables us to carry on with our momentum as we start the new Big 12 Conference season. I value the work that Coach Brown and his team do to help the youth in our program grow both on and off the field.

ESPN.com projects that Brown will make $4 million in 2024, $4.3 million in 2025, and $4.3 million in 2026. According to ESPN.com, Brown was expected to make $4.1 million this season, but in order to retain his staff, he wanted to give his assistants greater compensation.
