South Sydney Rabbitohs owner and Hollywood superstar Russell Crowe has given his support to coach Jason Demetriou after a disastrous loss to the Roosters on Friday night.
On Friday night, the Sydney Roosters gave the Souths their worst defeat under Demetriou’s leadership
, destroying their opponents 48–6 and scoring eight tries to send them to the bottom of the standings.
Similar to the Rabbitohs’ opening two losses of the season, the encounter at Allianz Stadium ended with mistakes putting the team under pressure defensively and impeding their attack.
Regarding the loss, Demetriou remarked, “It’s probably the lowest point in my career right now.”
The three losses to start 2024 followed the Rabbitohs’ seven-game losing streak from the previous season, which eliminated them from finals contention even though they had led the premiership after eleven rounds.
Following the defeat, Crowe made it plain in a text message to the club’s powerbrokers that things can turn around just as quickly as they can go wrong, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Former protégé of Wayne Bennett, Demetriou, claimed he was ‘very convinced’ he could shake the Rabbitohs’ current slump.
