MANHATTAN, Kansas – At Tointon Family Stadium on Thursday, Texas Baseball lost the first game of the series to No. 23 Kansas State, 14-3, following an eight-run second inning by the Wildcats.
At 6 p.m. on Friday, the Longhorns (15-11, 4-3) will try to get back on track and even the series.
In the top of the first inning, Jalin Flores hit a single home run to left field to give the Longhorns a 1-0 lead. Dee Kennedy launched his first career home run to left field to put the team ahead 3-0. The two-out, two-run home run to left field was the hit.
With one run scored on three singles in the third inning and a solo home run in the fifth, the Wildcats increased their lead to 10-3.
In the sixth inning, Texas put the first two men on base, but they were unable to reduce the Wildcats’ lead.
With two home runs off of Hudson Hamilton in the bottom of the sixth, Kansas State increased their lead to 13-3. In the eighth inning, another run was scored off of Cade O’Hara.
Texas increased the lead to 14-6 with three runs in the ninth inning. In the ninth inning, Will Gasparino launched his fifth solo home run of the year to get things off. Flores doubled off the wall in center field to score two extra runs.
