Breaking News: Coventry City just announced the re-signing of a key man

Managing Coventry City: Midfield addressed as Doug King open to transfer ‘upgrade’

Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner gives his take on the club’s recruitment intentions for the remainder of the transfer window

Mark Robins: Coventry City boss says league position 'embarrassing' - BBC Sport

The January transfer window has presented Coventry City with an intriguing opportunity. Mark Robins’ side sit just inside the play-off places in sixth spot in the Championship after a remarkable surge up the table.

Alongside the Sky Blues hopes of having another crack at promotion via Wembley is the ambitions for a decent FA Cup run in what could prove to be an unforgettable season as Robins continues to work his magic at the CBS Arena.

While not too many new signings are not expected in January, the addition of one or two players could be the key difference to getting over the line when City’s season reaches its climax in May. So, with that in mind, CoventryLive’s Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner has taken a look at what he thinks will happen between now and the end of January transfer window on February 1.

    Filling the gap

The arrival of Victor Torp has restored the numbers in terms of City’s midfield presence following the loss of Gustavo Hamer in August, and the 24-year-old Dane is certainly hoped to fill the gap in terms of quality. Mark Robins has been at pains to stress he’s not a like-for-like Hamer replacement in terms of what he can do on the pitch, but he certainly sounds like a dynamic midfielder who is comfortable, just like Gus, playing in a number of roles from holding and box-to-box to operating as a number ten.

    Icing the cake

Doug King said back in October that he would do January business if “we find the right kind of deal that works for us with the right type of player.” If that’s the case, he continued, “then we’ll probably be bold and probably get involved.

“But for me, it’s never clear until it’s clear. And so you just have to keep going and do your work, and if something turns up which you think is the right value for the situation then that will be where we’ll target.”
