Good news for Cowboys: Two key players are back from long gone injury

Change Titans have to make amid unwanted NRL history as Cowboys lose emerging star in win: What we learned

The North Qeensland Cowboys uhave run out 35-22 winners over the struggling Gold Coast Titans, but the win has been soured after a suspected ACL injury to centre Zac Laybutt.

Fullback Scott Drinkwater was sensational with two tries while winger Kyle Feldt was quiet until he intercepted a Tanah Boyd try to seal the game in the 69th minute.

That four-pointer was Feldt’s 131st career try for the Cowboys, which breaks Matty Bowen’s club record (130).

There was no shortage of controversy, with Chad Townsend’s sin binning in the 60th minute likely to be a talking point this week.

Townsend was given his marching orders for a hip drop on Jayden Campbell, but Andrew Voss believed the tackle wasn’t worth a sin binning.

“There’s been no re-grip from Chad Townsend there, it’s just how the tackle has ended with another tackler coming over the top,” Voss said on Fox League.

The Cowboys led 16-0 at half time after tries to Murray Taulagi, Drinkwater and Laybutt, but the Titans did well to limit it to just 16 as the home side seemingly had all the possession.

North Queensland looked like they would run away with it when up 28-4 after Drinkwater put Reece Robson over with a lovely short ball, but the Titans would hit back when AJ Brimson’s big run set up a Jayden Campbell try.

Townsend was sin binned soon after, and the Titans took advantage with two tries to make it a six point game.

However, the Feldt try and a Townsend field game iced the contest and put the result beyond doubt.

Titans veteran Kieran Foran left the game with an ankle injury and didn’t return, which could set up a switch in the backline with AJ Brimson impressing in the halves.

The Titans drop to 0-4 and are now on the wrong side of history, conceding 28 or more points for an NRL-record ninth straight game.
