Caro had always been known for her stunning voice and poetic lyrics, but with each album, she felt the weight of expectation growing heavier. The music industry, for all its glamour, had a way of boxing in artists, forcing them to stick to formulas that worked—hits that pleased the masses. For years, Caro had been compliant. She’d created beautiful, haunting albums that resonated with millions, but deep down, she knew they didn’t fully represent the depth of her artistic vision. Something was missing. In late 2021, after wrapping up a world tour, she returned to her studio with a restlessness she couldn’t shake. Her mind buzzed with ideas, none of which fit the mold of what had made her famous. She spent months experimenting—writing fragmented lyrics, playing with odd time signatures, and layering sounds she’d never considered before. To her surprise, what emerged from these sessions was raw, authentic, and deeply personal. It wasn’t until a late-night conversation with her longtime producer, Jordan, that Caro admitted she was no longer inspired by the music she’d been making. “I need something different,” she confessed. “I want to create without thinking about the charts or the expectations. I need to find my voice again.”Jordan, who had seen this coming for a while, smiled knowingly. “Then let’s make the album you’ve always wanted to make,” he said. “No pressure, no agenda. Just music.”They spent the next year working in relative isolation. The result was Nowhere Near The Sky, a record that was miles away from Caro’s previous work. It was an ethereal blend of ambient soundscapes, minimalist instrumentation, and lyrics that spoke to Caro’s innermost thoughts—grief, love, and the quiet moments in between. Where her earlier albums had leaned on grandeur, this one felt like a whispered conversation under a starry sky, a quiet rebellion against the noise of the world. When the album was released under her new moniker The Jordan in early 2023, it took her fans by surprise. Some embraced the change immediately, while others were left puzzled by the shift. But Caro didn’t mind. In interviews, she described the album as a form of liberation, a way to shed the layers of expectation that had weighed her down for so long.“I think I spent a lot of years making music that I thought I should make,” she said in one interview, leaning back in her chair with a thoughtful expression. “This time, I wanted to make music that felt true to where I am now. I wasn’t trying to write hits or cater to any specific audience. It was just about the art, about exploring themes and sounds that are meaningful to me.”She went on to describe how, for the first time in her career, she allowed herself to be vulnerable in her music. There were songs about heartbreak that felt almost too raw to release, but she did it anyway. There were tracks that barely had structure—just a swell of ambient sounds that captured a feeling rather than a story. But that was the point. The album wasn’t meant to be understood in a traditional sense. It was meant to be felt. The reception was mixed at first. Critics were divided—some praised her boldness, while others longed for the catchy hooks of her earlier work. But Caro didn’t care about the reviews. For her, the real victory was in the process itself. She had reclaimed her artistry, and with it, a sense of freedom that she hadn’t felt in years. As Nowhere Near The Sky gained traction, Caro began to notice something remarkable. While the album wasn’t topping charts in the way her previous records had, it was reaching a new kind of audience—listeners who craved depth and introspection. Slowly, but surely, her work began to find its place. Artists reached out to collaborate, citing her bravery as an inspiration. Fans sent messages describing how the album had moved them in ways they couldn’t put into words.Looking back on the journey, Caro felt a quiet satisfaction. Nowhere Near The Sky wasn’t just an album; it was a statement, a declaration that she was no longer bound by the industry’s rules. She had carved out a new space for herself, one where she could continue to evolve and create on her own terms. In one of her last interviews before the end of the year, Caro reflected on the journey of making the album. “I think, for the first time in my life, I’ve made music that’s truly mine. It’s not for anyone else—it’s for me. And I think that’s the most liberating thing I’ve ever done.”
