Does the Toronto Maple Leafs Captain deserve criticism?

    adminBy adminNovember 6, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

Morgan Rielly scored a goal and had two assists, and Anthony Stolarz earned his first shutout of the season as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Boston Bruins 4-0 on Tuesday night.

Stolarz made 29 saves to record his ninth career shutout. William Nylander and Matthew Knies each added a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who had lost their last two games. Steven Lorentz also scored, while Mitch Marner contributed two assists.

This was the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Boston winning the first game 4-3 in overtime on October 26.

Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman stopped 23 shots, but Boston’s two-game winning streak ended. The Bruins had won those games by a combined score of 5-0.

The Maple Leafs played without star forward Auston Matthews, who was sidelined with an upper-body injury, but still managed to break an eight-game regular-season losing streak against Boston that dated back to January 2023.

The game remained scoreless after the first period, which was competitive but without goals. Boston defenseman Andrew Peeke (upper-body injury) left the game in the first period after crashing into the end boards and did not return.

Toronto took control of the game with two power-play goals in the second period. Rielly scored his fourth goal of the season at 8:44, firing a shot through traffic while Nikita Zadorov was in the penalty box for interference.

Nylander scored his 10th goal of the season at 9:58. His sharp-angled shot was deflected into the net by Boston defenseman Brandon Carlo while David Pastrnak was serving a high-sticking penalty.

Stolarz played well in the third period, and Boston’s Hampus Lindholm hit the crossbar with a shot at 9:08, missing a chance to score.

Knies added his seventh goal of the season at 14:13 on a power play, redirecting Nylander’s shot into the net. Lorentz sealed the win with his third goal of the season, scoring into an empty net at 15:58.
