The Chicago Bears hold a 4-4 record going into Week 10, following two consecutive losses, including a 29-9 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals.
As they gear up to face the New England Patriots, the Bears’ management made moves ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday. They traded running back Khalil Herbert to the Cincinnati Bengals for a seventh-round pick in 2025.
After the trade, Herbert appeared to make a subtle jab at the Bears on social media, but Chicago quickly responded by bringing back a familiar player.
The Bears elevated defensive back Ameer Speed from the practice squad to the active roster and signed running back Darrynton Evans to the practice squad.
According to Kevin Fishbain on November 6, 2024, the Bears decided Wednesday to promote Speed and re-sign Evans, who had previously been with the team. Chicago initially signed Evans to the active roster in October 2023 after he was released from the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad. He was let go the following November but has now returned to Chicago a year later.
This marks Evans’ third stint with the Bears, made possible by Herbert’s departure, which created an opening in the running back rotation. Drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, Evans has 62 carries for 246 yards and one touchdown in his 19-game career.
With D’Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, and Travis Homer currently on the active roster, Evans offers the Bears additional depth on the practice squad.
