Saddest News: Phillies predicted to cut ties with $72 million former All-Star by spring training…

Phillies predicted to cut ties with $72 million former All-Star by spring training.

The Philadelphia Phillies have World Series aspirations after reaching the postseason for the third consecutive year. This year, they won the National League East with 95 regular season victories.

However, after losing the NLDS to the New York Mets, Philadelphia may look to make a few changes and trade a few players. Third baseman Alec Bohm has been on the trade block, but he may not be the only one on the way out.

Christopher Kline of FanSided predicts that veteran right-hander Taijuan Walker will be traded this winter.

“Taijuan Walker’s contract, which pays him $18 million annually through 2026, is a complicating factor here. The Phillies won’t be able to dump his salary with ease. If anything, Philadelphia would need to pay off the majority of his remaining $36 million to get a deal across the finish line,” Kline wrote.

“That said, with Walker coming off one of the worst pitching seasons in recent memory, his days have to be numbered in Philadelphia.”

The Phillies already have plenty of solid starters in their rotation, but they may look to upgrade the final spot.

Walker had a dreadful season, going 3-7 with a 7.10 ERA in 19 appearances, 15 of which were starts. He also averaged just 6.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

It might be hard for the Phillies to find any takers for the veteran right-hander and former All-Star. Kline notes that they may have to eat a significant chunk of his salary.
