Mark Andrews could be counting his last days in Baltimore because of what happened on Sunday. Andrews, who had been a part of the Ravens’ offense since 2018, probably had one of his worst nights ever on the gridiron. His two-point conversion late into the fourth quarter could have changed the game for the Ravens. The score was 27-25 when Andrews couldn’t hold onto the football. And his doing so would have taken the Bills game to overtime. However, none of those happened, as the Ravens’ playoff exit may have sealed the fate of Andrews
See, it isn’t like Andrews has been an okayish player that the Ravens can easily dispose of. Mark had just entered the Ravens’ record books as their all-time franchise TD leader. But none of those records really mattered when Andrews’ mistake threw Baltimore out of the playoffs. So, here’s the thing: The Ravens do have an escape route from their veteran TE. Choosing to trade or release Andrews before the 1st of July could bore more good news than bad for Baltimore.
Moving on from Andrews would help them save $11M from their cap space next season. Like after Marlon Humphrey’s $12M cap savings, Andrews is the next player on the list. And considering the finances, it wouldn’t really be a big surprise to see the Ravens trade or release Andrews. They could also opt for a restructuring of Andrews’ contract if they don’t really want to let go of their record holder.
