In a landmark achievement, Jon Scheyer, head coach of the Duke University Blue Devils men’s basketball team, has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2025 Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year Award. This recognition underscores Scheyer’s exceptional leadership and the remarkable success of the Blue Devils this season.

Scheyer, who took the helm in 2022 following the retirement of legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski, has swiftly demonstrated his coaching acumen. Under his guidance, Duke has maintained its status as a powerhouse in college basketball, showcasing both resilience and adaptability. This season, the Blue Devils have advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament, with dynamic guard Tyrese Proctor playing a pivotal role in their success.

The Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year Award, established in 1987, honors the top men’s basketball coach in NCAA Division I competition. Scheyer’s inclusion as a finalist is particularly significant, as it reflects his rapid ascent in the coaching ranks and his ability to uphold Duke’s storied basketball tradition. He joins esteemed colleagues Bruce Pearl of Auburn, Rick Pitino of St. John’s, and Kelvin Sampson of Houston as finalists for this year’s award.

Earlier in the season, Scheyer was named ACC Coach of the Year, marking a historic milestone as the first Duke head coach to earn this honor in his debut season. This accolade not only highlights his individual accomplishments but also underscores the strength and potential of Duke basketball under his leadership.

The winner of the Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year Award will be announced during the Final Four weekend in San Antonio. As the Blue Devils prepare for their upcoming matchup against Arizona in the Sweet 16, the team and its supporters eagerly await the announcement, hopeful that Scheyer will secure this distinguished honor.

Scheyer’s rapid rise and success with the Blue Devils serve as an inspiration, reflecting his dedication, strategic prowess, and the enduring legacy of excellence at Duke University.
