South Carolina women’s basketball has made a significant impact on the recruiting trail, securing commitments from two McDonald’s All-Americans for the Class of 2025: guard Agot Makeer and wing Ayla McDowell. Both players bring remarkable talent and versatility, strengthening the already powerhouse program under head coach Dawn Staley.

Agot Makeer, a 6-foot-2 guard from Montverde Academy in Florida, is ranked as the No. 4 overall recruit in her class. Known for her ability to play multiple positions, Makeer can fill roles at both guard spots and small forward. During her senior season, she averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 4.0 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game, showcasing her well-rounded game and defensive prowess. Her commitment to South Carolina, over other elite programs such as UConn and Michigan State, signals a major win for the Gamecocks. Makeer’s versatility on the floor will allow her to seamlessly integrate into South Carolina’s system, where playing both ends of the floor is paramount.

Ayla McDowell, a 6-foot-2 wing from Cypress Springs High School in Texas, is another stellar addition to the Gamecocks’ recruiting class. Averaging 24.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 3.1 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game during her senior year, McDowell has proven herself as a dynamic scorer and all-around player. Her accolades, including being named a McDonald’s All-American, highlight her elite status in high school basketball. McDowell’s commitment adds to an already impressive list of recruits who have chosen South Carolina as their destination.

Both Makeer and McDowell have emphasized their willingness to contribute in any way the team needs, expressing a commitment to “do the little things” for the success of the program. With these additions, South Carolina continues to cement its place as one of the nation’s top programs, poised to remain a dominant force in women’s college basketball.
