ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A somber mood hung heavy in the air at the Crisler Center today as Michigan Wolverines basketball center Daniel Wolf addressed the media, his voice choked with emotion as he announced the devastating news of his season-ending injury.
The junior standout, who had emerged as a dominant force in the paint for the Wolverines this season, revealed that he suffered a torn ACL during last weekend’s matchup against Purdue. The injury, which occurred midway through the second half, appeared minor at first, but further tests confirmed the worst.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Wolf said, struggling to maintain composure. “This team is like family, and it hurts not to be able to go to battle with them every night.”
Wolf, who averaged 14.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, has been a key piece in Michigan’s push for a strong postseason run. His presence on both ends of the floor, particularly his rim protection and rebounding, will be sorely missed.
