He’s Back: Five-Star Point Guard Jaden Akins Reaffirms Commitment to MSU Basketball, Withdraws From 2025 NBA Draft

East Lansing, MI — In a thrilling turn of events for Spartan Nation, five-star point guard Jaden Akins has officially withdrawn from the 2025 NBA Draft and reaffirmed his commitment to return to Michigan State University for another season. The announcement, made via social media and later confirmed by head coach Tom Izzo, marks a joyous occasion for fans and players alike.

Akins, who averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists last season, had declared for the draft while maintaining college eligibility. After participating in several pre-draft workouts and receiving feedback from NBA scouts, the junior guard decided the best move for his future was one more season in green and white.

“This place means everything to me,” Akins said in a video message. “I’ve grown on and off the court at Michigan State. I’m coming back to chase a championship and finish what we started.”

The return of Akins is monumental for a program looking to rebound after a second-round NCAA Tournament exit last season. His leadership, elite athleticism, and defensive prowess were critical to MSU’s success, and his decision instantly elevates the team’s ceiling heading into the 2025 campaign.

Head coach Tom Izzo couldn’t contain his excitement: “Jaden is the heart and soul of this team. His return is a testament to his belief in our program, and it sends a strong message to the rest of the country — we’re not done yet.”

With Akins back in the fold, Michigan State is poised to be a preseason top-10 contender. His decision not only boosts MSU’s backcourt but also signals unfinished business in East Lansing.

Spartan fans flooded social media with celebration, welcoming their star guard back with open arms. In a time where college basketball is constantly shifting, Akins’ loyalty is a powerful reminder: some stories are meant to be finished the right way.
