Kliff Kingsbury Delivers Emotional Farewell to Texas Tech Fans: “From the Bottom of My Heart, Thank You”
LUBBOCK, TX – Former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury delivered a heartfelt and emotional farewell message to Red Raider Nation this week, marking a poignant moment in the storied coach’s journey with the program. Known for his deep ties to Texas Tech, both as a record-setting quarterback and a head coach, Kingsbury’s goodbye resonated with fans, players, and alumni alike.
“To the incredible fans of Texas Tech, thank you,” Kingsbury began, his voice thick with emotion in a video message shared on social media. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for embracing me and my journey here. This place is home, and it always will be.”
Kingsbury, who served as Texas Tech’s head coach from 2013 to 2018, amassed a 35–40 record during his tenure. While his time on the sideline was marked by both highs and challenges, Kingsbury was widely respected for his offensive acumen and ability to develop quarterback talent. Under his leadership, future NFL quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes thrived, earning Kingsbury praise as a visionary play-caller.
But Kingsbury’s connection to Texas Tech runs deeper than X’s and O’s. He starred as quarterback for the Red Raiders from 1998 to 2002, setting numerous school and NCAA records, and becoming a fan favorite for his leadership and grit. His return to Lubbock as head coach was hailed as a homecoming, making his farewell all the more emotional.
“I grew up here. I became a man here. Coaching this team, in front of these fans, was more than just a job—it was a dream,” Kingsbury said. “And while the journey has taken me elsewhere, this chapter will always mean the world to me.”
Now moving on to the next phase of his coaching career, Kingsbury is reportedly set to join the Washington Commanders as their offensive coordinator. While excited about new opportunities, he made it clear that Lubbock will always have a special place in his heart.
“I’ll always be a Red Raider. No matter where I go, I carry this program, this community, and its people with me,” he said. “I’m forever grateful.”
