ESPN LATEST REPORT: Patrick Mahomes Donates $10 Million to Launch NIL Fund for Texas Tech Athletes

NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes is giving back in a big way to his alma mater. According to ESPN’s latest report, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has donated a staggering $10 million to launch a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) fund aimed at supporting Texas Tech student-athletes. The fund, named the “15 and the Mahomies NIL Fund,” is poised to become one of the largest athlete-focused financial resources in the Big 12 Conference.

Mahomes, a former Texas Tech standout and two-time NFL MVP, continues to show deep ties to the Red Raiders community. This latest gesture is not only a testament to his commitment to the university but also a major milestone in the evolving landscape of college athletics. With NIL becoming a pivotal factor in recruiting and retaining talent, Mahomes’ contribution could significantly elevate Texas Tech’s competitiveness across all sports programs.

“This is about investing in the future of Texas Tech athletics,” Mahomes said in a statement. “I want to give our athletes the best chance to succeed both on and off the field. This fund will open doors and help them make the most of their opportunities.”

The initiative will provide financial support to student-athletes who are leveraging their personal brands in the NIL era. From endorsement deals to social media partnerships, athletes now have the ability to profit from their name, image, and likeness—and Mahomes’ fund ensures that Texas Tech players can stay competitive with peers at other major programs.

The fund will be administered in partnership with the Texas Tech-focused NIL collective “The Matador Club,” and will provide not just direct compensation, but also education and resources on branding, financial literacy, and long-term career planning.

University officials praised Mahomes for his leadership and vision. “Patrick has always represented what it means to be a Red Raider,” said Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “This unprecedented gift puts Texas Tech at the forefront of NIL innovation and sends a strong message about our commitment to our athletes.”

The donation comes at a time when many colleges are grappling with how to adapt to the rapidly changing NIL landscape. Mahomes’ move could serve as a blueprint for other former athletes looking to make a lasting impact at their alma maters.

As Mahomes continues to make history in the NFL, his legacy at Texas Tech is now cemented as one of both athletic excellence and transformational generosity.
