Charlotte, NC – In an inspiring act of generosity and community leadership, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has announced a personal investment of $7.5 million to convert a luxury estate in Charlotte into a shelter and resource center for homeless youth.
The 23-year-old NFL rising star, who was the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, made the announcement Thursday morning during a press conference held at the property that will soon become a haven for dozens of young people in need. The project, titled The Young House, is set to provide housing, meals, counseling, and job training for youth ages 16 to 24 experiencing homelessness.
“I’ve been blessed with opportunities and support throughout my life,” Young said. “Now it’s my turn to give back in a way that truly changes lives. This isn’t just a donation—it’s a commitment to being part of the solution.”
The 10,000-square-foot estate, which previously belonged to a local developer, will undergo a full renovation over the next six months. Plans for the shelter include 20 individual bedrooms, shared living spaces, classrooms for educational programs, and wellness facilities. The goal is to offer both emergency housing and long-term support for youth transitioning into stable, independent lives.
Partnering with the nonprofit Urban Roots Charlotte, the initiative will also offer access to mental health services, mentorship programs, and job placement assistance. According to the latest data from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing & Homelessness Dashboard, more than 500 young people in the area experience homelessness at some point each year—a figure that has remained alarmingly consistent.
“Bryce’s vision and heart for this project are truly inspiring,” said Urban Roots Executive Director Tasha Monroe. “He isn’t just writing a check—he’s deeply involved in the planning, the mission, and the future of these kids.”
Young, who became one of the youngest starting quarterbacks in franchise history, has quickly built a reputation off the field as a thoughtful leader and community advocate. This latest move comes just months after he launched a scholarship fund for underprivileged students in his hometown of Pasadena, California.
Panthers head coach Dave Canales praised Young’s decision, calling it “a testament to the kind of leader we want not just in the locker room, but in our community.”
“I couldn’t be prouder of Bryce,” Canales said. “He’s not waiting until the end of his career to make a difference—he’s doing it now, when it matters most.”
Construction on The Young House is expected to begin in early June, with an opening planned for late 2025. Young says he hopes the project will not only change lives, but also inspire teammates, fans, and other public figures to use their platforms for greater good.
“I believe everyone deserves a safe place to sleep and a real chance at life,” Young said. “This is just the beginning.”
