Indianapolis, IN — In a move that has electrified the Indianapolis sports community and beyond, Pro Football Hall of Famers and Indianapolis Colts legends Marvin Harrison and Robert Mathis have announced a transformative multi-million dollar endowment to support the Colts’ youth development initiatives. The announcement was made during a special event at Lucas Oil Stadium, with team executives, local leaders, and youth program representatives in attendance.

The endowment, one of the largest philanthropic contributions in the Colts’ history, is aimed at expanding access to football training, mentorship programs, academic support, and life skills development for underserved youth across Indiana. This powerful act of giving reflects both Harrison’s and Mathis’s long-standing commitment to youth empowerment and their enduring connection to the city and franchise that shaped their legendary careers.

“This is about more than football,” said Robert Mathis, the Colts’ all-time sacks leader and Super Bowl champion. “It’s about giving kids a shot—not just on the field, but in life. Marvin and I both understand how important it is to have guidance, opportunity, and someone who believes in you. This endowment is our way of making sure future generations get that.”

The initiative will fund year-round programs that include free youth football clinics, leadership and character-building workshops, academic enrichment, and mental wellness resources. Additionally, the endowment will help expand access to equipment and facilities for schools and community leagues that lack sufficient funding.

Marvin Harrison, known as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, emphasized the importance of giving back to the city that supported him throughout his storied career.

“Indianapolis has given us so much,” said Harrison, an eight-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl XLI champion. “We wanted to make sure we were giving something lasting in return. Football taught us discipline, resilience, and teamwork—qualities that every kid deserves the chance to develop.”

The endowment will be managed through a partnership between the Indianapolis Colts Foundation and several local nonprofit organizations, with oversight to ensure the programs are equitable, impactful, and sustainable. Colts owner Jim Irsay lauded the donation, calling it a “historic and heartfelt gesture” that represents the very best of what the Colts organization stands for.

“Marvin and Robert are legends not just because of what they did on the field, but because of who they are as men,” Irsay said. “This endowment will uplift thousands of young people over the years and reinforce what we believe in as a franchise: community, commitment, and compassion.”

Local educators and community leaders also expressed their support. Tamara Williams, director of a youth mentorship program in Indianapolis, said the funding would be a “game changer” for at-risk youth.

“Many of these kids face overwhelming challenges, and sometimes just knowing that someone of Marvin’s or Robert’s stature believes in them is enough to spark real change,” Williams said. “Now we have the resources to back that belief with real opportunities.”

The initiative is expected to roll out in phases, beginning with expanded summer football camps and leadership programs starting this July. The long-term vision includes establishing satellite training and education hubs in underserved neighborhoods across Indianapolis.

As they stood together at the podium—two legends united not just by championships, but by purpose—Harrison and Mathis reminded everyone that while their playing days may be behind them, their mission to make a difference is just beginning.

“Our legacy isn’t just what we did in the league,” said Mathis. “It’s what we’re building for the future. And we’re just getting started.”
