BREAKING: NBA power forward Obi Toppin has signed a $13.5 million deal with Netflix for a 7 episode series about his journey with the Bostons Celtics………READ MORE👇…..

In a move that bridges the worlds of professional sports and entertainment, Boston Celtics power forward Obi Toppin has signed a $13.5 million deal with Netflix to star in a 7-episode documentary series chronicling his journey with the Celtics and his rise in the NBA. The groundbreaking deal marks one of the most lucrative media ventures for an active NBA role player and signals the streaming giant’s growing interest in athlete-centered storytelling.

The series, tentatively titled “Rising Green,” will provide exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Toppin’s life on and off the court, detailing his transition from a promising young forward to a key figure in one of the NBA’s most storied franchises. Sources close to the production say the docuseries will include footage from the Celtics’ locker room, game day routines, training sessions, and intimate personal moments with family and teammates.

From New York to Boston – A Story of Redemption

Toppin, 27, was originally drafted by the New York Knicks with the 8th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. After struggling to find consistent minutes during his early years, Toppin was traded to the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2024–25 season — a move that many saw as his last chance to make a significant impact in the league.

Since arriving in Boston, Toppin has reinvented himself as a high-energy contributor, praised for his defensive hustle, improved three-point shooting, and leadership off the bench. His resurgence coincided with the Celtics’ deep playoff run this past season, where they reached the Eastern Conference Finals before falling to the Miami Heat in a hard-fought seven-game series.

A Netflix First: Athlete-Led Storytelling at Its Core

Netflix, known for its successful sports series like Drive to Survive and Quarterback, sees “Rising Green” as a unique opportunity to tell the story of an underdog athlete making his mark in one of the NBA’s most pressurized environments.

“This series is not just about basketball,” said Kira Mendoza, Executive Producer at Netflix Sports Originals. “It’s about personal growth, identity, mental toughness, and what it means to rise through adversity in a city that demands greatness.”

Filming reportedly began in April during the Celtics’ playoff run and will continue through the offseason. The series is set to include interviews with Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, star players Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and even former Knicks teammates.

    Toppin Speaks Out

In a statement posted on his social media accounts shortly after the announcement, Toppin wrote:

“This project means everything to me. My journey hasn’t been perfect, but every setback, every challenge has led me to this moment. I’m excited to share my story with the world, and I’m grateful to Netflix for believing in it.”

Toppin’s agent, Leon Rose, added that the deal reflects the growing influence of athletes as media personalities:

“Obi is not just a basketball player—he’s a storyteller. This partnership with Netflix opens new doors for him and sets the tone for how modern athletes can engage with fans on a deeper level.”

Release Date & What to Expect

“Rising Green” is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in Spring 2026, and will be available globally. Each episode will run approximately 45 minutes and will explore different aspects of Toppin’s life—from his early days in Brooklyn, to the pressures of playing in New York, and the personal breakthroughs that came with his time in Boston.

With Netflix betting big on sports docuseries and Obi Toppin embracing his growing stardom, this collaboration could very well set the standard for how athlete narratives are told in the streaming age.

📺 Stay tuned for more updates on “Rising Green.”
