ESPN Said it a Done Deal, University of North Carolina men’s basketball program has landed another international talent, as Luka Bogavac — a 6-foot-5 guard from Montenegro — has officially committed to the Tar Heels………

The North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball program has struck again — bringing in another international piece to its roster. According to multiple reports, including from ESPN, 6-foot-5 guard Luka Bogavac of Montenegro has officially committed to Carolina.

    Background & Profile

Bogavac, a native of Mojkovac, Montenegro, joins the Tar Heels after four seasons as a professional player in the Adriatic Basketball Association (ABA) league. He stands about 6′5″ (sometimes listed at 6′6″) and weighs approximately 201 lbs (≈ 91 kg).

While with SC Derby and other ABA clubs, he averaged around 14.9 points per game in the 2024-25 season, with strong shooting numbers — approximately 40% from beyond the arc and an 87% free-throw rate.

What the Commitment Means for UNC

Head coach Hubert Davis and General Manager Jim Tanner have been working to rebuild the Tar Heels’ roster aggressively for the 2025-26 season, following a 23-14 record and earlier first-round NCAA Tournament exit.

Bogavac is conceptualized as a wing shooter who brings experience, maturity and international polish to a team that has undergone major turnover. “He’s ultra-aggressive on the offensive end,” teammate Seth Trimble noted of Bogavac’s coming style of play.

    Strengths & Fit

Shooting & spacing – Bogavac’s track record indicates reliable three-point hitting, which fills a pressing need for UNC’s schematic spacing.

Experience – Unlike many first-year collegiate players, Bogavac has already competed professionally and in FIBA international tournaments, giving him a leg-up in maturity and understanding of high-level competition.

Versatility & size – At 6′5″/6′6″ and ~201 lbs, he projects as a wing who can defend multiple positions in the ACC, while also bringing offensive options.

    Considerations & Outstanding Items

Adjustment to college game – Although experienced, Bogavac still must adapt to NCAA rules, tempo, physicality and defenses in the ACC. The coaching staff has acknowledged an adjustment period ahead.

Clearance & eligibility – While he has arrived on campus and cleared admissions and visa requirements, final NCAA eligibility clearance remains a formality.

Role definition – With several newcomers and transfers on the roster, Bogavac’s fit within the rotation will be something to watch. Will he be an immediate starter, or slot in as a key bench piece?

    Outlook for the 2025-26 Season

This commitment signals that UNC is serious about reclaiming elite status in college basketball. Bogavac adds to an influx of new talent — including transfers, freshmen and international players — aimed at bolstering depth, experience and shooting.

If things go smoothly, Bogavac could become a valuable two-way weapon for the Tar Heels: a shooter who stretches the floor, player with pro seasoning, and contributor who doesn’t carry the huge learning curve common for younger recruits.

For UNC fans, the message is clear: the Tar Heels are not waiting around. This is a “done deal” in commitment, and now the real work begins to integrate Bogavac into the system, optimize his role, and leverage his international experience for the team’s benefit.
