Manchester City, an English Premier League team, has reportedly prevented midfielder Kalvin Phillips from leaving the team at the conclusion of the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider.
As far as Naija News is aware, Phillips has only played 760 minutes for his new team, Pep Guardiola’s, following his £45 million transfer from Leeds United last year.
The season before, Phillips was little used because he was farther down the hierarchy of his position than players like Rodri and John Stones.
The Citizens are said to have refused the 27-year-old’s request to quit the club in spite of the happenings.
As far as Naija News is aware, Manchester City had an unprecedentedly successful 2022–2023 campaign.
Man City won the treble, which included the FA Cup and the Premier League, under Guardiola, and they also won their first UEFA Champions League title.
The following summer, they made a few changes to their squad, especially in midfield as several important players left the team.
Captain Ilkay Gundogan, for example, left the team free to sign with Barcelona, a massive Spanish team. The Englishman Phillips, a second midfield player for the club, was allegedly being pursued by other Premier League teams.
But Phillips’s plan to leave Etihad never came to pass.
