Three months on from the summer transfer window closing and Simon Moore looks no nearer to getting a senior game for Coventry City and, as such, attention now turns towards the mid-term trading point when there’s another opportunity for the goalkeeper to move on to get match time on a regular basis.
At 33, the Sky Blues stopper is wasted as a third choice. He spent enough time in the shadows at Sheffield United before his impressive first season at City and his career, as it stands, is passing him by. Moore is a thoroughly decent guy and, by all accounts, an absolute consummate professional who hasn’t moaned and sulked but, instead, continued to be a valued member of the tight-knit goalkeepers’ union at the club, training as hard as ever at Ryton and pushing and encouraging his senior teammates Brad Collins and Ben Wilson, as well as offering talented development keepers Cian Tyler and Luke Bell the benefit of his experience.
But the reality is that Mark Robins took the decision to add more quality and competition in the summer, and the arrival of Collins meant the writing was on the wall for Moore who, going on his first year at the club, still has plenty to offer. He’s still relatively young for a keeper and should really be at his peak rather than getting the very occasional game in the Under-21s, as he did on Friday night in the 4-4 draw with his former club, the Blades.
