The Wolves manager is looking forward to Monday night’s Premier League clash at Craven Cottage.
Gary O’Neil has paid tribute to the contributions of Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore in making Wolverhampton Wanderers a Premier League regular.
The Wolves boss was speaking ahead of Monday night’s showdown between his side and Fulham’s current duo – with legend Old Gold set to face their former employers for the first time.
Adama left Molineux in June, after 200 games in more than five years, when Jimenez scored 57 times and was the main point of the team that raised the bar in the top flight. The couple will be welcomed by Wolves fans at Craven Cottage.
“The endorsement is exciting because both of these guys still talk so much about this place and the impact they’ve had,” O’Neil told the club’s website.
“The fact that I’m in charge of a Premier League team here with the success they’ve had, they’ve played a big part in that. “Sometimes things turn out that you don’t get as good as everyone would have liked, but that doesn’t change how everyone feels about those two things, and I know how the fans feel about them. in the club’s recent history, and great respect to both of them, but I hope they have a tough night on Monday.
Traore has missed two months with an injury, but he returned for the last game before the international break, when he played the last eight minutes of Aston Villa’s victory. Jimenez has started nine of Fulham’s 12 Premier League games – and has been involved in all but one. Villa’s victory was also important for the Mexicans, and provided his first goal for Marco Silva’s side.
Fulham, who are three points and three places behind Wolves in 15th, are also rebuilding after the departure of their striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
“It’s a tough transition, I think, for them because it’s a core part of what they’ve done for a long time,” O’Neil continued. I played against the same Fulham team as a first-time manager at Bournemouth in the Championship and again last season in the Premier League, and he was always an important part of what they did.
“It’s clear. they replaced him, Vinicius came in a season or two ago, and Jimenez, who had a fantastic season here and is a good player, similar to him in the way he can hold the ball, is good in the air and be a goal threat. They seem to have found a way to do things, but when you lose a guy who scores 60, 70% of your goals, it’s obviously a big change.
