Golden State Warriors‘ star, Steph Curry, is not expecting to win the NBA MVP award this year after finishing a distant eighth last season. However, Curry has cast his vote for who he thinks deserves the title, and his pick is none other than Philadelphia 76ers‘ center, Joel Embiid.
In an interview with Chris B. Haynes, Curry praised Embiid‘s performance this season, stating that the center has shown that he’s capable of taking even bigger leaps than he already has.
“Joel took a leap that I think a lot of people didn’t expect because he was dominant already. That leap turned heads and put Philly in a great position. If I had to pick, it would be him,” Curry said.
Embiid’s numbers this season make a compelling case for his MVP candidacy. He is currently leading the NBA in scoring for the second consecutive year and is also enjoying a slew of career-highs in efficiency.

As of writing, Embiid has been averaging 33 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season. His 33 points per game are a career high, which has been assisted by career-highs in field goal percentage, free throw conversions, and conversions inside the paint.
Embiid’s stellar play has been a significant factor in the 76ers’ success this season, as they currently rank third in the Eastern Conference and are considered one of the favorites to win the NBA title this year.
