“A FRESH START…”: Missouri Hires Former Tennessee Head Coach as Next Women’s Basketball Coach. This decision comes as Harper steps in to replace Robin Pingeton, following the expiration of her….

In a significant move for Missouri Tigers women’s basketball, the university has appointed Kellie Harper as the new head coach, succeeding Robin Pingeton, whose contract concluded at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Harper, 47, brings a wealth of experience to Missouri, having previously led programs at Western Carolina, NC State, Missouri State, and most recently, her alma mater, the University of Tennessee. Over her 20-year coaching career, she has amassed a 393-260 record and secured nine NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to the Sweet 16.

At Tennessee, Harper guided the Lady Vols to consecutive Sweet 16 berths but faced challenges in meeting the program’s championship aspirations, leading to her departure. Prior to Tennessee, she achieved notable success at Missouri State, steering the team to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2018-19 season.

Missouri’s Athletic Director, Laird Veatch, expressed optimism about Harper’s hiring, emphasizing the growing prominence of women’s basketball and the potential for increased brand exposure for the university. He believes Harper’s leadership will inject the necessary energy to rejuvenate the program.

Harper’s appointment comes on the heels of Robin Pingeton’s decision to step away after a 15-year tenure with the Tigers. Pingeton, who announced her departure in February 2025, led Missouri to four NCAA Tournament appearances between 2016 and 2019 but struggled to maintain that momentum in recent seasons. Her contract, which was extended in 2018, expired at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

Missouri’s women’s basketball program has faced challenges in recent years, missing the NCAA Tournament for six consecutive seasons. The team has not maintained a winning record in SEC play outside of their tournament appearances under Pingeton. Harper’s hiring signals a commitment to revitalizing the program and returning to competitive prominence.

An official announcement detailing Harper’s contract specifics is anticipated soon, as the university looks forward to a new era in its women’s basketball program.
