July 1, 2025 — Netflix has officially announced the release date for its much-anticipated documentary series chronicling the life and career of NBA legend Paul Pierce. According to an ESPN report, the series, titled “Truth Be Told: The Paul Pierce Story,” is set to premiere globally on August 23, 2025. The multi-part docuseries promises an in-depth, unfiltered look at the triumphs, trials, and legacy of one of the most iconic figures in Boston Celtics history.
Paul Pierce, often referred to by his nickname “The Truth,” was a 10-time NBA All-Star, 2008 NBA Champion, and NBA Finals MVP. Known for his clutch performances, competitive fire, and fierce loyalty to the Celtics, Pierce left an indelible mark on the NBA over his 19-season career.
The Netflix series, produced in collaboration with ESPN Films and SpringHill Entertainment, will feature never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews with teammates, coaches, rivals, and family members, and behind-the-scenes insights into the life of a man who embodied the soul of Boston basketball for over a decade.
According to the ESPN report, the series will explore Pierce’s rise from his early days in Inglewood, California, through his college years at Kansas, to his dramatic selection as the 10th pick in the 1998 NBA Draft — a pick that would go on to reshape the Celtics franchise.
