Kurt Capewell says Andrew Webster a ‘massive reason’ behind sudden Warriors move
Warriors recruit Kurt Capewell says coach Andrew Webster is a “massive reason” behind him deciding to leave the Broncos immediately to join the New Zealand-based club.
After weeks of speculation, Capewell’s move was made official on Thursday, with the 30-year-old signing a three-year deal that he deemed to be “an opportunity too good to pass up”.
“It was definitely tough. I’ve obviously done a lot here in the last couple of years, so it’s tough to be leaving, but exciting as well,” he said.
“I love the club and I’ve had a great time since I’ve been here. I still love everyone here as well. I’m lucky that I’ve got the opportunity to go to the Warriors for the next three years.
“It was an opportunity too good to pass up and I’m just grateful for the time I’ve spent here and obviously grateful to the Warriors.”
Capewell is familiar with Webster from the pair’s time at the Panthers, and is keen to reunite with the newly-crowned Dally M Coach of the Year.
“Webby has obviously done great things at the club,” he said.
“He’s a great bloke and I really get along with him on a personal level as well, so he’s made the decision easier, that’s for sure.”
Capewell said he was “proud” having seen the Broncos rise from strugglers to grand finalists in his time at the club, and can see a similar trajectory for the Warriors, who surged up the latter into a preliminary final this season.
