There were doubters about him, but Jalen Milroe became one of the best quarterbacks in college football. His confidence grew and he has the University of Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game.
Milroe has 31 total touchdowns — 19 passing, 12 rushing — which ranks him eighth in school history for a single-season total.
He’s been at his best lately and hopes to continue that in Saturday’s Iron Bowl.
On Wednesday’s “Hey Coach,” Nick Saban shared what made him most proud of his quarterback. “[He’s] become a very positive player who runs and passes and leads on the field, which I think has had a positive impact on everybody,” Saban said of Milroe.
The sophomore has two acronyms that turned Alabama’s season around after the loss to Texas: F.A.M.I.L.Y. and L.A.N.K. FAMILY, or Forget Me, I Love You, helped Milroe emerge as a leader when he was benched against South Florida. He supported Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson in the 17-3 victory of the Crimson Tide.
Managing Milroe got him his job back. LANK, or Let All Naysayers Know, became the team’s motto after the Texas loss. Alabama proved the doubters wrong by becoming one of the best teams in the country.
Hope will survive the College Football Playoff if the Tide win and maybe get some help from other losers. Milroe has been a great leader and now he will take advantage of the opportunity to lead his team in the Iron Bowl.
