Grady Diangana reveals West Brom are searching for ‘winning mentality’ under ‘special’ Carlos Corberan

The winger scored his second goal of the campaign in Albion’s’ 2-0 win over Coventry City on Monday (30 October) as he looks to rediscover the form that made him so special when the Baggies were promoted under Slaven Bilic.

With their latest win, West Brom have reinforced their place in the play-off race as they climb to fifth in the Championship and Diangana has revealed that Corberan’s side is developing a mentality where they expect to win every match they play.

As quoted by the Express & Star (31 October) he said: “We’re trying to create a winning mentality in the team and hopefully push on to keep growing and winning every game. I think with the gaffer, working together, every week it seems to be gelling even more and more, we’re going in the right direction.

“He’s a special manager, the detail that he gives us, it’s very detailed. He’s very demanding and he knows what he wants from us. He keeps pushing us all the time.”

Although things are going very well currently at The Hawthorns, nothing is decided in the Championship in October and West Brom have to keep pushing on and progressing if they want to sustain this play-off push for the remainder of the campaign.

It is clear that Corberan is very aware of this and has ensured that his playing squad are aware of it as well and although Diangana is clearly enjoying his football at the moment, his immediate response was to look ahead to what the Baggies have to do next.

This drive is evident across the entirety of the squad, with every player leaving everything that they have on the pitch week in and week out since the September international break and that winning mentality and impressive work ethic have led to much improved results.

It is so crucial, given the relatively small size of the West Brom squad currently, that all players are pulling in the same direction as there is not enough depth for players to let somebody else put in the work. It truly feels like Corberan is getting the best out of every player who is currently fit in his ranks.

Hopefully, the winning mentality will remain between now and May and who knows where the Baggies could ultimately finish the season.
