Breaking: Arizona State Quarterback Sam Leavitt Makes Generous Donation to Pat Tillman Foundation…………

Tempe, AZ — In a powerful act of generosity and deep respect for legacy, Arizona State University (ASU) quarterback Sam Leavitt has made headlines this week by donating a significant sum to the Pat Tillman Foundation. The donation, described by ASU Athletics as one of the most substantial contributions from a student-athlete in recent memory, underscores Leavitt’s commitment to honoring those who serve and supporting the next generation of leaders.

Leavitt, a rising star in ASU’s football program and a vocal advocate for social causes, presented the donation during a press conference held at Sun Devil Stadium on Tuesday. Flanked by university officials, teammates, and representatives of the Pat Tillman Foundation, Leavitt spoke passionately about his motivation behind the gift.

“Pat Tillman is more than a name on a jersey or a statue. He’s a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and integrity,” Leavitt said. “I’ve always looked up to him not just as an athlete, but as a person who lived by his values. It’s an honor to be able to give back to a foundation that continues his mission.”

Pat Tillman, an ASU alumnus and former NFL player, left professional football in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks to enlist in the U.S. Army. He was tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2004. His legacy lives on through the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides academic scholarships, leadership development, and community support to military veterans and their spouses.

Though the exact amount of Leavitt’s donation has not been publicly disclosed, sources close to the foundation describe it as “transformational,” with the potential to fund multiple scholarships over the coming years.

Marie Tillman, co-founder and board chair of the Pat Tillman Foundation, praised Leavitt for his generosity and character. “Sam embodies many of the same principles that guided Pat throughout his life—leadership, humility, and a genuine desire to serve something greater than himself. His contribution is not just financial; it’s deeply symbolic.”

ASU Head Coach Kenny Dillingham also commended his quarterback’s actions, calling Leavitt “a true role model on and off the field.”

“Sam’s leadership isn’t confined to game days. He inspires our locker room every day with his attitude and actions,” Dillingham said. “What he’s done here today goes beyond football. It speaks to the kind of man he is.”

The donation has sparked an outpouring of support across the ASU community and beyond. Students, alumni, and fans have taken to social media to praise Leavitt’s commitment to service and social impact. Some have even launched fundraising challenges to match or supplement his gift.

This act of philanthropy also highlights a growing trend in college athletics, where student-athletes—empowered by new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rules—are using their platforms and earnings to make a difference in their communities.

Leavitt, a transfer from Michigan State, is expected to play a major role in ASU’s upcoming football season. But even before taking a snap this fall, he’s already made a lasting impact off the field.

“I play football, but I live to lead,” Leavitt said. “If this donation helps just one veteran achieve their dreams, then it’s worth everything.”

As the Pat Tillman Foundation continues its mission to develop future leaders, Sam Leavitt’s contribution ensures that the spirit of Pat Tillman will carry forward, both on campus and around the country.
