May 25, 2025 — In a groundbreaking move for both sports and streaming enthusiasts, Netflix has announced its latest original documentary, “Black and Gold Bloodlines,” a deep dive into the Indianapolis Colts’ remarkable dynasty years. The series promises never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, and untold stories from some of the biggest names in Colts history, including Peyton Manning, team owner Jim Irsay, and wide receiver legend Reggie Wayne.
The documentary, set to premiere globally on Netflix in July 2025, spans six episodes chronicling the transformation of the Colts from a struggling franchise to a powerhouse NFL dynasty in the 2000s. At the heart of this transformation was quarterback Peyton Manning, whose leadership and precision revolutionized the team’s offensive playbook and culture.
“This is a story about more than just football,” says executive producer Ava DuVernay, who worked closely with Netflix and the Colts organization to bring the series to life. “It’s about leadership, resilience, the business of building a team, and the family-like bonds that formed inside the locker room.”
Each episode of Black and Gold Bloodlines takes viewers through a distinct era or theme—beginning with the team’s controversial move from Baltimore to Indianapolis, leading up to the drafting of Peyton Manning in 1998, and culminating in the 2006 Super Bowl XLI victory, which cemented their status among the league’s elite.
Manning, now a Hall of Famer, provides candid commentary throughout the series. “We weren’t just trying to win games,” Manning says in a trailer released by Netflix. “We were trying to build something lasting—for the city, for the fans, and for each other.”
Team owner Jim Irsay opens up about his family’s legacy and the pressures of managing a franchise during a period of explosive growth in the NFL. In an emotional moment, Irsay reflects on the personal and professional sacrifices made to keep the Colts competitive. “Every great team is built on tough decisions,” he notes. “But also on heart.”
The documentary also highlights Reggie Wayne, whose bond with Manning on the field became one of the most dynamic QB-receiver duos in NFL history. Wayne discusses his journey from Miami to Indy, the chemistry in the huddle, and the fierce rivalries that defined the era—most notably the Colts’ legendary clashes with Tom Brady’s Patriots.
In addition to player insights, Black and Gold Bloodlines includes commentary from coaches Tony Dungy and Jim Caldwell, sports journalists, and superfans who lived through every touchdown and heartbreak.
