Speaking to the media ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Spurs, Enzo Maresca was asked about two of the new faces at Stamford Bridge this season.
As we’ve grown accustomed to, Chelsea signed heaps of talent in the summer window.
Looking to build on last season’s top-four finish, they recruited heavily both before and after the Club World Cup. The forward areas got most of the attention, and now the Blues are stacked with attacking threat.
That’s great for a multitude of reasons, but it does give Maresca some selection headaches.Compared to 18-year-old Estevao, the two new left-wingers — Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens — are veterans of the game. Yet, they both endured slow starts to their time at Stamford Bridge.
But the tide is turning, and both have looked far better in recent weeks. Gittens got his first Chelsea goal against Wolves the other day, and what a goal it was.
Garnacho also got his first goal for Chelsea in their loss to Sunderland, and Maresca is happy with how they are settling in.
In his pre-match press conference (via Football London), Maresca says of his new wingers: “They are both adapting to the way we work every day. They are both doing very well.
“This is what we want from our wingers, scoring goals and assists.”
It gives Maresca a tough call to make for Tottenham, to choose between them. But it’s a happy problem to have, as he remarks: “It’s good that they’re both doing very well so we can choose one or the other.”
Whoever gets the nod on Saturday will know just how important it is that they perform, with the other waiting in the wings.

Maresca’s comments on Cole Palmer
In one way, it’s a good time to be a Chelsea attacker.
Cole Palmer not being available — while a sickening blow for the team — does give the new youngsters more of a chance to play in the big games. Though Enzo Fernandez has filled in more often than not, there is scope for Estevao to move in centrally and another winger to get into the lineup.
Once he returns, the opportunities become much less frequent.

As for when that will be, Maresca had this to say: “I just met him in the canteen for breakfast and I said to him, in one week, you will be back’ and he was laughing. We are still waiting.”
If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry.
