Breaking News: Tyrese Haliburton of Indiana Pacers Basketball Has Invested $60.8 Million to Transform a House Into a Shelter For Homeless Youth in………..

    Indianapolis, IN — June 11, 2025

In an extraordinary act of generosity and civic responsibility, Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton has announced a groundbreaking $60.8 million personal investment to convert a historic mansion in downtown Indianapolis into a state-of-the-art shelter and support center for homeless youth.

The project, named “Haliburton House,” will provide housing, meals, education, mental health services, and job training for up to 150 young people at a time. The facility is scheduled to open in early 2026 and will operate in collaboration with several local non-profits, including Outreach Indiana and the Indiana Youth Group.

“This is about more than just a building,” said Haliburton during a press conference at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Tuesday morning. “This is about giving kids a second chance, a safe place to grow, and the support they need to chase their dreams. I’m investing in futures—because nobody should be left behind just because they didn’t get a fair shot.”

The 25-year-old NBA All-Star has become one of the most beloved figures in Indiana not only for his talent on the court, but also for his commitment to uplifting the community. According to project planners, the sprawling property will include dorm-style housing, a counseling center, classrooms, a tech lab, recreation areas, and a full-service kitchen.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett praised Haliburton’s initiative, calling it “a transformative gift to the city.”
“Tyrese isn’t just a superstar athlete—he’s a role model and a leader,” said Mayor Hogsett. “This shelter will fill a critical gap in our city’s ability to care for vulnerable young people, and we are beyond grateful for his vision and commitment.”

The project was inspired in part by Haliburton’s own upbringing in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where he says he witnessed the devastating effects of youth homelessness. “I was fortunate to have a strong support system,” he said, “but I’ve seen kids my age fall through the cracks just because they didn’t have a place to go. That stuck with me.”

The property, a 19th-century mansion on the edge of the Herron-Morton neighborhood, was purchased earlier this year for $7.2 million. The rest of the $60.8 million investment will fund renovations, staffing, operational costs, and an endowment to keep the shelter running long-term.

Community leaders are already hailing the move as one of the most impactful philanthropic gestures in Indiana sports history.

Construction is expected to begin this summer, with job creation expected to benefit local contractors and youth mentorship organizations.

As Haliburton put it: “This is just the beginning. I want this to inspire more athletes, more people with platforms, to step up. We all have a part to play in creating a better world.”
