Cowboys Coach Mike Zimmer Says Al Harris Staff Decision Was ‘Great Work!’
The Dallas Cowboys presented defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, confirming that defensive backs coach Al Harris will stay with the team next season.
Mike Zimmer, defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, was presented on Wednesday. He will succeed Dan Quinn, who is currently the head coach of the Washington Commanders.
Dallas had a solid regular season, but its success was disproportionately attributed to bad quarterback play. Through September, the unit appeared to be an All-Decade defense, but a lack of physicality, discipline, and sound run defense would be their doom. This resulted in a 48-32 Wild Card Round loss to the Green Bay Packers, which highlighted these problems and made it increasingly evident that change was possible.
Zimmer’s hiring represents an attempt to make the necessary changes to transform the Cowboys’ defense into a championship-caliber squad. However, reports that defensive backs coach Al Harris could be part of the coaching staff’s shift made fans fearful that Zimmer would do more harm than good.
