“I would say that you will see us this coming year not build it for the future.” That Dallas would be “all-in” for the 2024 season comes as no surprise.
After all, it will be the last year of head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract after Jones decided not to fire him following the playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Dak Prescott is also under contract for just one more season at this point.
If the Cowboys fail to achieve their goals during the next year, the head coach and quarterback positions could be on a perfect reset timeline. Jones even discussed Prescott’s status:

Dallas is also coming off a third straight 12-5 season and presumably has enough talent to challenge for a Super Bowl.
While the playoff loss to the Packers undercut an impressive regular season, the 13-4 Baltimore Ravens were the only team in the league to finish with a better record. With Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons and others still on the roster, anything less than a deep playoff run would be seen as quite a disappointment.
Jones’ comments also suggest the Cowboys could look to make some win-now moves during the offseason.
Perhaps they will spend some extra money in free agency or make an aggressive draft-day trade.
Maybe that will mean addressing positional needs during the draft to help provide immediate answers in areas of weakness. Whatever path Jones chooses, it is clear he has another division crown and more in his sights.
