The legendary player for Manchester United, David Beckham, has refuted rumors that he is in talks with Qatar to acquire the league’s top team.
There were rumors earlier this month that David Beckham and Sheikh Jassim, the billionaire from Qatar, were teaming up to try and acquire Manchester United.
Remember that Sheikh Jassim has been the front-runner to buy Manchester United since the summer of 2022, when the club’s present owners, the Glazers family, placed it up for sale?
While Sir Jim Ratcliffe, his main adversary, is vying for majority ownership of the Premier League team, the Qatari billionaire is preparing a takeover.
According to recent reports, Sheikh Jassim wants to leverage David Beckham’s influence to complete the takeover and has plans to appoint Beckham as Manchester United’s ambassador.
Nevertheless, Beckham, who co-owns Inter Miami, an MLS team, stated that he has not had direct discussions with the Qatari billionaire regarding the takeover of Manchester United.
There hasn’t been any conversation as of yet. Because I play for PSG, I have a long-standing relationship with Qatar. People will undoubtedly make some connections and put two and two together, Beckham said to CNBC.
“The time is ideal for a takeover, which will occur. Everyone has an idea on who should be in charge, but in my view, it should be determined by who has the greatest passion for the team and will restore it to its rightful position.
“As a Manchester United supporter, everyone is aware of my vociferous criticism of the current state of affairs. There was a lot of consistency for me growing up there, with the same owners and manager.
“I hope to see an ownership group that will restore the club to its rightful state. It’s time for someone else to take over, not that the previous owners weren’t doing a good job.
