LOS ANGELES — June 24, 2025 — The Los Angeles Chargers have locked down one of their most critical offensive assets for the foreseeable future. Star left tackle Rashawn Slater has signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him in Los Angeles through the 2027 NFL season. The deal is valued at $53 million and includes a massive $49.65 million signing bonus. Remarkably, the entire contract is fully guaranteed, signaling the team’s unwavering commitment to their Pro Bowl lineman.

Slater, 26, has been a cornerstone of the Chargers’ offensive line since being drafted 13th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Northwestern. Known for his agility, technique, and discipline in pass protection, Slater quickly emerged as one of the league’s top blindside protectors. His immediate impact earned him All-Pro recognition as a rookie, and he has remained an essential figure in both the run and pass game for Los Angeles.

This extension, which averages $13.25 million per year, represents a significant investment by the Chargers, but one they clearly view as worthwhile. With quarterback Justin Herbert also secured long-term, the team continues to build around a young offensive core that is capable of competing in the loaded AFC West.

General Manager Joe Hortiz praised Slater in a statement released this morning: “Rashawn is everything we look for in a Charger—smart, tough, and dedicated. His work ethic on and off the field sets the tone for our offensive line and this organization. We’re thrilled to keep him in powder blue for years to come.”

The Chargers’ offensive line has often been a point of concern in recent years, but Slater’s presence has helped solidify the unit. Despite missing a large portion of the 2022 season due to a torn biceps, he returned in 2023 stronger and more effective than ever, allowing just two sacks across 17 games and earning his second career Pro Bowl nod.

Slater’s deal makes him one of the highest-paid tackles in the NFL, reflecting the rising market for elite offensive linemen. His fully guaranteed $53 million contract not only secures his financial future but also sets a benchmark for upcoming negotiations with other top linemen across the league.

In a brief social media post following the announcement, Slater expressed gratitude: “Thank you to the Chargers organization for believing in me and my journey. I’m honored to keep protecting our QB and fighting for this team. Bolt Up!”

As the Chargers continue to push toward Super Bowl contention, retaining foundational players like Slater is a key strategy. With the deal now finalized, the focus shifts to training camp, where Slater will once again lead the offensive line into what promises to be another highly competitive season.

Bottom line: The Chargers have made a bold move to ensure the future of their offensive line, and Rashawn Slater is now firmly a part of their long-term vision.
