Eddie Nketiah Explains Why He Extended His Arsenal Contract

    adminBy adminOctober 17, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Eddie Nketiah, the center forward for Arsenal, stated that his passion for the team was the reason behind his decision to extend his contract with the Premier League team located in north London.

Nketiah, who was 16 years old on July 1, 2015, transferred to the Arsenal academy from the Chelsea youth system.

On January 1, 2019, the 24-year-old Nketiah was promoted to Arsenal’s senior squad, however he was unable to establish himself in the starting lineup.

The one-capped England international chose to go on loan to Leeds United from August 2019 to January 2020 as a result of his lack of playing time. The Ghanaian-born striker made 19 appearances for Leeds United in the EFL Championship, scoring five goals.

Eddie Nketiah has made 142 appearances for the Gunners throughout the 2017–18 season and has scored 34 goals in all competitions as of the time this report was written.

On June 18, 2022, the young player—who had previously turned down a contract extension offer from the team—agreed to extend his contract with Arsenal, despite having struggled to play consistently over the previous two seasons.

Given his supporting role at the team, the majority of fans were taken aback by such decision.

But despite Gabriel Jesus’s injury difficulties, he has turned into coach Mikel Arteta’s go-to attacker this season, proving that his faith in the system has paid off.

Eddie Nketiah has made 11 appearances in all competitions so far this season, with two goals and one assist.

Owing to his reliability in the Arsenal team, Nketiah eventually made his debut for England against Australia on October 13, 2023, in a friendly match that finished 1-0 in England’s favor.

Nketiah stated, “I signed a new deal at Arsenal because I love the club,” in an interview with FourFourTwo. London is my home, but a major factor was also played by the fact that I have always been an Arsenal fan.

“After speaking with the manager and learning about his goals for me, I was certain that I wanted to grow and support Arsenal.”

Please take note that Eddie Nketiah’s current Arsenal contract expires on June 30, 2027.
