Latrell Wrightsell Jr., a guard for the Alabama men’s basketball team, was absent from practice on Wednesday, the day that reporters were permitted to see it prior to the Crimson Tide’s Sweet 16 run. Wrightsell suffered a head injury and had to leave UA’s round of 32 victory over Grand Canyon.
The first fifteen minutes of Alabama’s practice were open to the media at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Wrightsell was not visible from the sidelines or the court.
After practice, head coach Nate Oats wasn’t sure if Wrightsell would play.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Oats stated, “Latrell is being re-evaluated by the medical staff every day, and he’s basically on a day-to-day basis now.” “I’m uncertain as to whether he will be available. They will inform us tomorrow.
During the press conference, Nick Pringle, an Alabama forward, also expressed optimism on Wrightsell’s potential presence.
Pringle remarked, “I really believe Latrell will be alright.” Whether he plays or not, I believe we still have a fantastic game plan. He’ll surely play, in my opinion. However, I believe we’ll still have a fantastic strategy. Our team comprises exceptional athletes and coaches that possess the ability to adapt and execute the necessary changes.
This season, Wrightsell missed time due to a concussion. Prior to the current season, he transferred from Cal State Fullerton to Alabama.
The players from Alabama claimed that Wrightsell’s injury inspired the team after the team won in the second round.
Rylan Griffen remarked, “Just made sure we had to get through.” Personally, I think it’s clear he wants to play. I’m sure he didn’t want to suffer any harm today. He walked outside and gave us everything he had during his little playtime. I thus thought, “Let’s make sure we give Trelly another opportunity to play for us this season.”
After defeating Grand Canyon, the Crimson Tide will play North Carolina in the Sweet 16. If UA defeats the top-seeded Tar Heels, it advances to the Elite Eight to play the victor of Thursday’s game between Arizona and Clemson.
