The Chicago Bears acquired quarterback Justin Fields tonight, as the NFL community had been waiting for this to happen for a while. Chicago is trading Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2020; if he plays more, the pick may rise to the fourth. In addition to signing Russell Wilson and sending their previous first-round pick, Kenny Pickett, to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Steelers have been rearranging their quarterback room.
With the first overall pick, the Chicago Bears are anticipated to select quarterback Caleb Williams. In addition to forcing the Bears to select a quarterback in the draft, this transaction should inform Washington of the availability of the other “Top 3” quarterbacks, should they decide to pass on the former USC quarterback.
The two quarterbacks most people have ranked behind Williams are LSU’s Jayden Daniels and North Carolina’s Drake Maye. Washington will select second overall. The new management, which is led by General Manager Adam Peters and Head Coach Dan Quinn, hasn’t said much about which quarterback they like, but it’s obvious that they will select a quarterback in the first round after acquiring veteran Marcus Mariota and dealing starter Sam Howell to the Seahawks.
