The Cincinnati Bengals’ Tyler Boyd is still available at wide receiver, as the New England Patriots need to rebuild its wide receiver group.
On Saturday, David Kenyon of Bleacher Report recommended Boyd as one of the Patriots’ “best fits.” Boyd’s $43 million, four-year contract with the Bengals came to an end prior to free agency.
Boyd has 513 receptions for 6,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in eight seasons. Between 2018 and 2019, Boyd recorded two seasons with 1,000 yards or more. On average, he averaged 64.1 receptions, 750 yards, and 3.9 touchdowns per year.
“After Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins joined the team, Boyd’s output decreased, but as the third option, he continued to be a vital component of the offense with over fifty-eight receptions in each of the three seasons,” Kenyon wrote.
“This offseason, following his franchise tag by the Bengals, Higgins asked to be traded. But there’s no assurance that he’ll truly move out of Cincinnati,” Kenyon went on. “If the Bengals decide to move on from Higgins, Boyd might rejoin the team, but that’s not a given.”
Boyd had 67 catches for 667 yards and two scores in the previous season, but his 2022 and 2021 games appeared more promising. Boyd scored five scores and 762 yards from 58 receptions in 2022 and eighty-seven yards and five touchdowns from 67 receptions in 2021.
Boyd outperforms every wide receiver in the Patriots wide receiver room just in 2023. He gained more yards than the Patriots’ top receiver, DeMario Douglas, who caught 49 passes for 561 yards and zero touchdowns in 2023.
Kendrick Bourne, a receiver for New England, had four touchdown seasons, but his total was just 37 catches for 406 yards. JuJu Smith-Schuster had 29 catches for 260 yards and a touchdown, but he fell short of the hype.

Boyd wouldn’t go broke if the Patriots pursued him. According to Spotrac, he could earn $8.7 million a year or $26.14 million over three years.
