MAVERICKS SIGN THREE, INCLUDING FALL CLASSIC ALUMNUS
It’s not often that a teenager that came through the Mavericks’ corner of the world four years ago comes back as a member of the 2023-24 roster.
But Greg Brown III has pulled it off.
The native of Austin is a product of the University of Texas.
But before he was a Longhorn, he participated in the 2019 Mavs Fall Classic and was selected to the all-tournament team.
The Fall Classic is an annual high school basketball tournament that showcases some of the best teams in Texas.
In 2019, The Brown-led Vandergrift Vipers played in the event against Plano Prestonwood and the 6-8 forward on Monday became the first alumnus of the Mavs Fall Classic to sign with the team, according to Brad Freeman, the Mavericks’ director of youth basketball and tournaments.
Joining Brown in signing training camp contracts with the Mavericks were guard Jordan Walker, who was a star in four games with the Mavericks’ summer-league team in July, and swingman Joe Wieskamp.

DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed forward Greg Brown III, guard Jordan Walker, and forward Joe Wieskamp. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Brown (6-8, 217) is a Texas native who played at Vandegrift High School in Austin, where he collected Texas Gatorade Player of the Year and Austin American-Statesman All-Central Texas Player of the Year honors before staying in Austin to play one season at Texas. Brown was drafted in the second round (43rd overall pick) of the 2021 NBA Draft, spending two seasons with Portland averaging 4.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 11.5 minutes in 64 games (6 starts). He played in 20 games (2 starts) last season with the Ontario Clippers, averaging 6.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Walker (5-11, 170) went undrafted in 2023 after two seasons at UAB, where he led Conference USA in scoring and 3-pointers made in both seasons. He averaged a career-best 22.3 points to go with 4.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 33.5 minutes in 33 games (32 starts) last season with UAB. The Long Island native spent the 2023 NBA Summer League with the Mavericks and averaged 13.0 points and 3.5 assists per game in four appearances.
Wieskamp (6-6, 205) has appeared in 38 career games with San Antonio and Toronto, and has averaged 1.8 points and 0.5 rebounds per contest. The Muscatine, Iowa, native was selected by San Antonio in the second round (41st overall pick) of the 2021 NBA Draft. Prior to being drafted, Wieskamp spent three collegiate seasons at Iowa, where he was named All-Big Ten Second Team as a junior after averaging 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 31 appearances (all starts).
