GREAT NEWS: NETFLIX ANNOUNCES DOCUMENTARY SERIES CELEBRATING 40-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF MICHIGAN WOLVERINES’ 1985 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM AND “SQUID” — HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT…

Netflix has just dropped a bombshell of nostalgia and excitement with the announcement of a brand-new documentary series celebrating the 40-year anniversary of the Michigan Wolverines’ legendary 1985 Super Bowl Championship team — and the mysterious figure known only as “Squid.”

Titled “Wolverines ’85: Blood, Glory, and Squid,” the limited series is set to premiere in Fall 2025, blending sports history with dramatic storytelling. While diehard fans know the Wolverines as a college football powerhouse, this documentary takes a creative twist by imagining a fictional world where a college team made the leap to the NFL and clinched a historic Super Bowl win. It’s part alternate history, part deep-dive homage to the real grit, heart, and legends of Michigan football.

At the heart of the story is “Squid” — a nickname whispered in sports lore, known for his behind-the-scenes leadership and mysterious presence during the team’s miracle run. Netflix promises exclusive interviews, unseen archival footage, player reunions, and a cinematic retelling of the season that shocked the world.

Executive producers include acclaimed sports documentarian Ezra Reed and Michigan alum and filmmaker Ava Reynolds. The series will explore game-changing moments, locker room drama, fan frenzy, and the cultural impact the team had on Michigan and beyond.

“Whether you’re a Wolverine, a football fanatic, or just love a great underdog story — this series is going to hit hard,” Reed said in a statement.

Expect six hour-long episodes packed with action, emotion, and never-before-heard secrets from the 1985 season. From gritty game-day footage to heartwarming tales of brotherhood, this is shaping up to be a must-watch for fall.

Stay tuned — the Wolverines are coming back, and this time, they’re streaming.
