UConn Women’s Basketball Lands No. 1 Player in America, Chooses Huskies Over LSU, Alabama, and Georgia

The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has made a massive addition to their already impressive roster. On Wednesday, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class, point guard Jordan Wood, announced her commitment to the Huskies. The highly sought-after player chose UConn over a slew of top programs, including the LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Georgia Bulldogs, in what has been a highly anticipated recruitment.

Wood, a five-star talent from the prestigious St. James School in Hagerstown, Maryland, is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic and skilled players in the country. Known for her elite basketball IQ, vision, and ability to score from all areas of the court, she has long been a favorite for top college programs. Her commitment to UConn represents a huge victory for head coach Geno Auriemma and his staff, who have built one of the most successful programs in NCAA women’s basketball history.

“I’ve always admired the culture at UConn, and the way they develop players and prepare them for the next level,” Wood said during her announcement. “The combination of a winning tradition and an opportunity to play alongside some of the best players in the country made UConn the best choice for me.”

The 2025 class, already a highly anticipated group, is now even stronger with Wood’s decision. UConn continues to be a powerhouse in women’s college basketball, and Wood’s commitment adds another level of excitement for the future. UConn’s legendary coach Auriemma has already turned the program into a juggernaut, and with top recruits like Wood joining the fold, the Huskies’ dominance shows no signs of slowing down.

This commitment is also a significant blow to LSU, Alabama, and Georgia, all of which had been hopeful to land the No. 1 player in America. As UConn continues to assert its dominance, this latest recruiting victory is another testament to its enduring legacy in women’s college basketball.
