In the 2025 NBA Draft, Indiana Pacers selected Duke player Taelo Peter with the 54th overall pick, as reported by BasketNews (basketnews.com). This move is seen as a replacement for Tyrese Haliburto, who is expected to miss the upcoming season due to injury, specifically a torn Achilles tendon (timesleaderonline.com). The draft and team adjustments indicate the Pacers’ efforts to rebuild and adapt their roster, with Peter stepping in as a key guard. Despite the new addition, Haliburto has expressed a strong desire not to return to the Pacers after his injury, which has significantly impacted the team’s future plans (newsweek.com). As of now, Peter’s role and future with the Pacers remain to be fully determine, but his drafting signifies a strategic move to fill the void left by Haliburton’s absence.

Just days after the Finals, the Pacers made a notable move in the NBA Draft, using their only pick to reinforce their backcourt depth.

With the 54th pick, Indiana selected Taelon Peter, a strong, efficient combo guard who brings two-way value and physicality to the lineup. Standing 6’4″ and weighing 210 pounds, Peter has the tools to contribute on both ends of the floor.

In his lone season at Liberty, Peter averaged 13.7 points per game, shooting an impressive 57.8% from the field and 45.3% from three-point range. He became just the third player in program history to be selected in the NBA Draft.
