Brisbane Lions in disbelief after sudden death of club ‘hero’ Nicole Duncan
‘No one in the history of the Lions had a bigger influence on the players, coaches and the workings of the club.’
The Brisbane Lions are in mourning after the death of much-loved club staff member, Nicole Duncan, who passed away following a short battle with leukemia.
A club stalwart, Duncan was the Lions’ football administration manager for 31 years.
She had been there from before the club’s inception when Fitzroy and Brisbane merged in 1996, oversaw the triple-premiership era between 2001-03, was there through the bad times of the late 2000s and early 2010s, and all the way until the successes of recent years.
Brisbane CEO Greg Swann said her loss will be felt heavily at the club.
“She was a true Lions legend even though she never played,” he told the club’s website.
“She ran everything in the football department with a minimum of fuss and was never fazed by anything.
“Football clubs at every level are made up of the people involved and I would say that no-one in the history of the Lions had a bigger influence on the players, coaches and the workings of the club.”
Senior coach Chris Fagan said Duncan was the most competent and dilligent colleague he had ever worked with in the industry.
