JUST IN: Reggie Miller Banned from East Finals Broadcast Panel Amid Concerns Over Motivating Pacers

    May 29, 2025 | NBA News Desk

In a shocking and unprecedented move, the NBA has announced that Indiana Pacers legend and Hall of Famer Reggie Miller has been banned from participating in the broadcast panel for the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals. The reason? He has reportedly become a source of inspiration and emotional fuel for the very team he once carried on his back — the Indiana Pacers.

Miller, a longtime analyst for TNT, has been covering the East Finals, where the Pacers are currently locked in a heated series against the heavily favored Boston Celtics. Over the past few games, viewers and players alike have noticed the increasing influence Miller’s presence has had, not just from the commentary booth, but behind the scenes.

“Reggie’s energy is contagious,” Pacers forward Pascal Siakam told reporters after Game 3. “Having him around, hearing his stories, his passion — it reminds us of what it means to wear this jersey. It’s like he’s part of the team.”

League officials, however, are concerned that Miller’s presence compromises the perceived neutrality of national broadcasters and may be tipping the scales, at least emotionally, in favor of Indiana.

In a brief statement released this morning, the NBA said:

    > “While we hold Reggie Miller in the highest regard as a Hall of Fame player and seasoned broadcaster, we must maintain the impartiality of our broadcast partners. Due to his increasing involvement and influence on the Indiana Pacers during this series, Mr. Miller will not participate in coverage of the remaining games in the Eastern Conference Finals.”

The decision has sparked immediate backlash on social media and among fans, with many arguing that Miller is simply doing his job — and doing it well.

Charles Barkley, his longtime colleague on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” called the move “ridiculous and overblown.”

    > “What’s next? Are they gonna ban Shaq for rooting for big men? Reggie bleeds Indiana — everybody knows that. That’s not a conflict of interest, that’s authenticity,” Barkley said during a TNT postgame segment.

For Miller, this postseason has been a special one. He was courtside in Indianapolis as the Pacers won their first Game 7 in over a decade. He’s spoken frequently on-air about the team’s gritty identity, their underdog mentality, and the way they’ve recaptured the city’s basketball spirit. Many fans and players credit him as a spiritual bridge between Indiana’s golden era and their current playoff resurgence.

“We feel him with us,” said Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton. “It’s like he’s still fighting out there — through us. We’re trying to win this not just for ourselves, but for Reggie, for the city, for history.”

Miller has yet to make a formal statement about the suspension but posted a cryptic message on social media shortly after the news broke: “You can take me off the air, but not out of Indiana’s heart.”

The Pacers currently trail the Celtics 2-1 in the series, with Game 4 scheduled for Thursday night in Indianapolis. With the team riding high on emotional momentum — and now fired up over the league’s decision — Game 4 could see an even more energized Indiana squad.

NBA fans are already referring to this moment as the “Reggie Rule” — a cautionary tale of how a legend’s legacy can still shape games long after retirement.

One thing is certain: Whether or not Reggie Miller is in the booth, his presence looms large over this series.

    And Indiana is listening.
